Dear Future Student,

Allow me to speak in the first person here. I'm leaving that little bit of text above, because it seems to work nicely with the search engines. I hope you understand.

Here's a little background about myself and my teaching methods - first of all, no, I do not teach the Suzuki method. To do so I would have to take some expensive classes and get certified, which I don't currently have an interest in. I do use the Suzuki books, however, as I find them to be a good source of graduated repertoire. I'm always open to working on other pieces that you bring in or would like to do (such as orchestra pieces or solos you have a particular interest in). I'll also give you some scales to play and perhaps some etudes, depending on your level, and explain some music theory throughout the course of our lessons.

A large part of what we do in lessons, however, will be determined by what you want to do with the instrument - there are many different paths to becoming a better violist or violinist, and I will try to direct you in the way that's most pertinent to your interests and goals.

One thing that is the same with every student, however, is my policy regarding scheduling, payment, and cancellations.

Students of any age are welcome, although I do think it's best to wait until a child can concentrate on one thing for half an hour. I love working with adult beginners or hobbyists as well as high school/jr. high aged children, and as a former nanny I do well keeping the young ones engaged too. I am a very personable and friendly person and haven't had problems with any age groups.

A first lesson is always scheduled on a trial basis, for your piece of mind. A student-teacher fit is very individual, and every teacher is not right for every student. Some students even schedule first lessons with several teachers and then pick the one they feel the most comfortable with.

I look forward to our first lesson together!
